Crew for a Cause is a dedicated community committed to enhancing South Africa’s education system by supporting promising high school students through collective efforts. Established in 2017, the organization began with 15 friends contributing modest monthly amounts to fund a scholar’s education at their alma mater. This initiative quickly gained momentum, and today, Crew for a Cause boasts over 300 active monthly members.
Mission and Impact
The core mission of Crew for a Cause is to build a community of South Africans united in creating a movement for better education. By pooling resources, the organization provides financial assistance, mentorship, and holistic support to selected learners, ensuring they have the tools needed to excel academically and personally. As of 2024, the organization has achieved significant milestones:
R3.5 million raised for the bursary program.
25 learners funded across 10 schools.
Scholars maintain an average of 80% academically.
A 98% member retention rate since inception.
Bursary Program
The bursary program is designed to offer comprehensive support to scholars. Key components include:
Student Recruitment:
Learners are selected based on independent assessments in subjects like English, Maths, and Science, as well as evaluations of their resilience and determination.
Financial Support:
Beyond tuition, the program covers psychosocial support, clothing, transport, and extra lessons.
Student Guidance:
Continuous career guidance and emotional support are provided throughout their schooling years.
